Respect, dignity and care

Instead of being able to enjoy their golden years, many elderly people face poverty, isolation and disrespect. Beloved life-long partners pass away ... eyesight, hearing and other faculties diminish ... precious savings are eaten away by inflation or exploited by unscrupulous relatives ... families just 'forget' about granny or grandpa.

For sad and frightened old folk like this, our homes are a haven of tranquility, care and security.

Dayanand Garden Home
Situated within our 10- acre Arena Park headquarters, Dayanand Garden is home to 350 aged and disabled men and women. Apart from full residential care, the home offers five meals a day, 24-hour nursing care, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, access to TV, radio and DVDs, spiritual care, regular concerts and entertainment, transport to hospital/clinics and a tuckshop where residents can buy basic items.

Shalligram Home for the Aged
A futher 90 elderly people live in this second Chatsworth Home, which offers similar services to those of Dayanand Garden. The home also runs a sheltered workhop where residents have the opportunity to earn a little extra income by fulfilling assembly or packaging piece-work for local factories.

Clayton Gardens Home for the Aged
Based in Asherville, Durban, this facility offers low-cost housing to 84 pensioners – allowing them to live semi-independently yet safely close to all amenities.

Umzinto/Port Shepstone
21 elderly people live in this private residential facility, which receives no State assistance. The ABH Branch Committee would dearly love to offer a more comprehensive service, but is hampered by lack of funds.

VJ Kara Centre, Glencoe
With the growing number of aged persons in the area, this Branch is experiencing a huge demand for services. Incorporating a Frail Care Centre, VJ Kara has been blessed with a large contingent of volunteers, which enables it to flourish despite limited financial resources.

All our homes for the aged depend on contributions from caring people. Please consider making your donation now.
